Film About New York City's Favorite Hawk - Pale Male- Debuts (and we certainly hope they talk about Lola, too)
New York City Audubon will host the premiere of The Legend of Pale Male, an inspiring new documentary by Belgian filmmaker Frederic Lilien, on Friday,
November 6, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
Selected as “Best of Festival” at the 2009 International Wildlife Film Festival, The Legend of Pale Male tells the compelling true story of New Yorkers whose lives were changed when a red-tailed hawk took up residence on a Fifth Avenue co-op. Affectionately known as Pale Male, the hawk has become a magnificent obsession and a metaphor for triumph against all odds. Lilien’s latest film traces Pale Male (and his fans) down many trails of life, death, birth, hope, and redemption. Following up on Lilien’s 2003 film Pale Male, Legend reveals what happens after the beloved bird’s nest is dismantled by the co-op building managers. In a wingbeat, media from around the world assemble on Fifth Avenue to cover the unprecedented protest. Gathering behind Pale Male is an army of birdwatchers, movie stars, poets, children, dogs, and late-night comedy show hosts. What unfolds next, as they say, could only happen in New York. The screening will be followed by a Q& A with the director, and a reception. Refreshments are kindly donated by Judi and Jeff Feinberg, Citadel Trading Corp. The screening will be held at the School of Visual Arts Theater, 333 West 23rd Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues). Tickets are $25. Space for this event is limited, so reserve your place early! Tickets and more information are available at NYCAudubon.org |
