Antony Gormley Exhibit Through August 15th

In the exhibition Event Horizon, thirty-one life-size body forms of artist Antony Gormley inhabit the pathways and sidewalks of historic Madison Square Park and the rooftops of the city’s Flatiron District.

Four figures are placed at ground level while 27 works are close to the edge of rooftops and parapets around the Park.

Whether on the ground or high on rooftops, Gormley’s isolated body forms, which are cast in iron and fiberglass, face the city and demand to be noticed. The protective hard shells of which they’re made reveal little more than a featureless male form and are met with the attitudes of the quintessential New Yorker – curiosity, enthusiasm and nonchalance. The celebrated British artist originally created Event Horizon for London's Hayward Gallery as part of the Blind Light exhibition in 2007. The sculptures were installed on bridges, rooftops and streets along the South Bank of London's Thames River.

The exhibition is presented by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, in partnership with Time Out New York, NYC & Company, Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership, Ace Hotel New York and Sean Kelly Gallery, New York.
